Today, I want to give you a traditional Ayurvedic recipe - a warming winter chai made from Ashwaganda root (Withania Somnifera) that is deeply nourishing and restorative for your body.

It's a simple and traditional chai made with Ashwagandha root, sugar, black pepper, and milk. It's a delicious, herbal medicine that boosts your health in every warming cup.

In India, Ayurvedic medicine believes Ashwagandha gives the person the vitality of a horse and has been used for more than 5000 years for:

  • promoting learning and memory

  • inflammatory conditions such as rheumatism, bronchitis, asthma, and psoriasis

  • arthritis and painful joints in general

  • improving stamina in athletes

  • improving libido (sexual energy) in males and females

  • promoting growth in children

  • improving blood cell health including iron levels

  • helping in the treatment of high cholesterol or diabetes

  • helping convalescence after illness or prolonged stress

  • enhancing immune function and for low white blood cell counts

  • for helping with insomnia

I use Ashwagandha as a herb of transformation. It’s an important ally for burnout and exhaustion. It can restore sleep, calm, and feelings of well-being in our stressed and busy world.

Why A Herbal Chai?

Medicine doesn’t always have to be in capsule form. In fact, experiencing a herb in a tea or chai like this gives you a more sensory deep understanding of the herb and what it’s doing for your body.

From the first sip, you can feel the Ashwagandha is going deep - warming, nourishing, and wrapping you in a herbal hug.

  • Root Medicine: Different parts of plants are more active. With Ashwagandha, we use the root as medicine. Root medicines are more "grounding". They often feel stabilising, nourishing, and work on the lower half of the body.

  • Adrenal Support: Ashwagandha's main benefit is to help restore wellbeing during or after long periods of stress have left you feeling depleted. It works on the adrenal glands providing the nourishment they need to work optimally again.

  • Wired and Tired? This is the herb for you. Ashwagandha's work on the adrenal glands mean it helps to being you back into a more calm and naturally energised state. When you first start taking it, you might feel more tired and sleep more the first few days. After that, you should feel an uplift in your natural energy.

  • Reset Sleep Patterns: Ashwagandha's work on the adrenal cortex means that stress hormones are more regulated, sleep patterns restored, and overall feelings of well-being can return.
