Feeling Fatigued? Find Extra Energy with Adaptogen Herbs
Did you know that nature has given us a secret set of herbs that has the ability to help our bodies through periods of temporary stress and to recover from feelings of "burn out"?
These herbs are known as adaptogen herbs because they seem to help the body to find extra strength and endurance when human beings are pushed to their limits.

Extra Energy with Adaptogen Herbs
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is probably the most famous adaptogenic plant. This medicine is thought to work by providing nourishment straight to the adrenal glands - which can become exhausted from constant stress. In fact, if you take a cup of Ashwagandha chai and sit quietly after about 20 minutes, you may feel a slight sensation in your lower back where your adrenal glands sit on top of your kidneys. Try it.
Try: 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder mixed with a sprinkle of cinnamon and black pepper. Add to a mug with boiling water, whole milk and some brown sugar for a simple but very restorative chai. Take daily for 14 days to restore energy.
Schisandra Berry
Schisandra berries are tiny red berries that was the favorite of Siberian hunters to provide reliance in extreme cold. Today, it’s used to help adrenal stress, balance hormones, and improve “qi” in Chinese medicine. I find it very uplifting.
Try: You can buy whole dried berries. Start with chewing 1-2 per day and work up to 6-8 berries per day. You can also pour boiling water over them and make a simple tea.
Panax Ginseng
This herb is also known as American Ginseng. This is deep root medicine that can help when under extreme pressure. I’ve given it to exhausted mothers in labour to help them find the extra energy at the end. And I’ve taken it for a month myself to radically recover from a period of burn out. Strongly nourishing and reviving, to be used sparingly and carefully with dosage from a herbalist.
